Binaural Soundscapes

Binaural Soundscapes is an extract of an on-going Audio Design project that explores binaural recording techniques.

These two compositions are part of a longer (and yet to publish) Design Psychology research; currently supervised by Helen Andreae at Victoria University of Wellington.

This research explores how to counteract negative emotions in procrastinators (particularly those who work remotely) by creating inmersive soundscapes that procrastinators can listen to while working.

Our hypothesis is based on the effects of natural environments on emotional restoration.

We think that a soundscape with a high level of immersion could be an accessible mean for procrastinators to achieve emotional restoration during their break from an undesired task. If users perceive successful emotional restoration after a break within their work session, they will be more likely to resume their previous task, increasing their productivity overall.

The two soundscapes were built with samples recorded with a 3Dio Microphone in a local beach and forest respectively. Both compositions aim to create a peaceful and imaginative recreation of both environments. The audio production was made entirely in Adobe Audition and GarageBand.
